Project Overview

The Tobruk Gas Power Plant is implemented by METKA/Mytilineos for GECOL. Total capacity: ~740 MW open-cycle. The plant includes four gas turbines: two GE GT13E2 units and two Ansaldo AE.94.2 units, operating on natural gas or liquid fuel. The project aims to support and stabilize the electrical grid in eastern Libya, particularly Tobruk and surrounding areas.

The Challenge

Working in a challenging security environment while maintaining project schedule and quality standards. The project required careful logistics planning for equipment delivery and personnel safety, as well as adapting to local conditions and coordinating with various stakeholders.

Our Solution

We implemented comprehensive security measures and established secure logistics corridors. Modular construction techniques were used to minimize on-site work duration while maintaining quality standards. Our team coordinated closely with local authorities to ensure safe operations.

Scope of Work

Gas turbine units installation (2× GE GT13E2 and 2× Ansaldo AE.94.2)
Dual-fuel capability: natural gas and liquid fuel
High-voltage electrical distribution systems
Gas treatment and compression systems
Control and monitoring systems (DCS and SCADA)
Grid interconnection equipment and synchronization systems
Total plant capacity: ~740 MW open-cycle configuration
Electrical generators and excitation systems installation
Medium-voltage switchgear and distribution systems
